I’m going to be honest with you, I’m worried about the prisoners at USP Penitentiary McCreary in Pine Knot, KY. I know it’s not just them. It’s the entire prison system. They’re all bad. All of them are determined to torture prisoners. We have zero prison reform. That’s how the government wants it. The prison system is a money-making business, charged on our tax dollars. If they gave prisoners the tools they needed in order to succeed in the real world and not keep coming back, they’d lose money.
Also, why do you think there are so many wrongful convictions? Yes, racism is a massive part of it. Also, money! They can keep them locked up for the rest of their lives, society also assumes that they’re guilty because that’s how people treat all prisoners. There’s no way they could possibly be completely innocent and locked up for no reason! *insert eye roll* But it happens every day. It has always been happening. It’s going to continue to unless we raise our voices and refuse to stop until there’s change.
Correctional Officer’s do whatever they please to prisoner’s and again, society doesn’t care. Whenever I bring it up or anyone else who cares does, the normal response is, “How about, don’t go to jail?” There’s also, “Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.” It’s very triggering when people tell me to “think of the victims” and “I bet you never knew anyone who’s been murdered.” Don’t ever assume. I know more than people care to realize. Just because I want inmates to be treated humanely and want prison reform doesn’t mean that I don’t want criminals to be punished. I’m well aware that there are many people in prison who are supposed to be there and that society is better off without them in it.
Priosner’s deserve an opportunity to succeed. I realize not all of them, but there are inmates who do deserve it. I’ve gotten to know some good people who are in prison who want to help others once they get out. They want to serve their communities and help others not go down the same path they did. Isn’t that a good thing? Shouldn’t we want that for them? Shouldn’t we be encouraging that?
I know it feels good to judge others and to think, “At least that isn’t me!” I’ve done that as well. But, I just ask for you to think about this and hopefully, start taking it seriously down the road.
